I buy only supplies that we will use at home, and I stock up when they are cheap cheap cheap!!!!! I also buy back to school clothing as needed. Since I live in CA and the kids went back this week (95 degrees) there was no need for a whole new “fall” wardrobe yet.

My thriftiest back to school was buying at Rite-aid with coupons this year and getting a black ink cartridge along with notebooks, tape, ink and ink pens for school ALL FOR FREE. Free is good. School costs enough as it is.

Organize your friends to swap extracurricular educational activities (ex. I’d teach my friend’s kids intro Spanish lessons in exchange for piano lessons for my kids). I haven’t done that yet as my kids are too little, but hope to do so in the future.

My son’s school requests a long list of school supplies each year. I recycle items from the year before (like pencil box) and I also buy items on clearance in the fall and store them. I keep a handy list of the best price for glue sticks, pencils, crayons, etc right on my phone so I can quickly compare.
