I know this is a very specific post about one place to eat – however, it is nice to have ideas from specific places. Red Robin is also a seemingly very popular restaurant as they are always hoppin’! We have shared specifics on how we save at Kohls among various other stores and areas, so why not start picking restaurant highlights!
We went out to dinner on our weekly family dinner night out at Red Robin and Thrify Al and I were discussing how it is one of our favorites and how we have saved eating there each time!
Steps to Save:
1. Set a budget – this is the foundation for EVERYTHING, so it will most likely be at the top of our “how to save” lists every time we post an article like this. Hopefully that’s not too much of a spoiler. 😉 This is important because, even if you are saving loads of money, sometimes you are spending a lot! And I am referring to all areas of life! Ultimately, “spending to save” is not being thrifty! It is also a lot of fun and a challenge to see just how far you can make that budget stretch!
2. Start with a discounted gift card to Red Robin!
Here are ways to score discounted gift cards to Red Robin! Why? Buying a discounted gift card already gives you savings, but in many cases, you can also use a coupon(s) with it for even greater savings!
- Our favorite is the in-house discounted package they offer for around $32. You get a $20 gift card, FREE cheese sticks appetizer and 2 movie tickets. The value of this package is $44. If we know it is in our plans to go, then we buy this package, whether we use it all on a discounted date night or the gift card for family dinner and then the movie tickets for a date night later! PLUS you can use coupons with the gift card. You can purchase this package at your local Red Robin!
- Buy a gift card off Ebay! You can usually save a dollar or two (or even more if you are an Ebay pro!). Obviously you need to be careful about who you buy it from. Do your homework so you can avoid fraud of a fake gift card.
- Buy a gift card from CityDeals.com. Everyday, you can get gift cards for 10% off or more or a 10% bonus. The Red Robin gift cards come with a 10% bonus. Plus City Deals will run promotions here and there to save even more! Watch our site for promotions going on at City Deals – like right now, enter the code: nowandlater and save another 10% now and 10% on your next order = final is $22.50 for $27.50 worth of gift cards! Always a winner as you can use coupons with it too! (psst… this code works on anything on the site so poke around to see if there are other popular places you patronize for a discount – see more details about how City Deals works!)
3. Use coupons!
- Find coupons in local coupon mailers (at least this is the most popular place we have found them!)
- Join their eclub on-line for offers, coupons and discounts – like this week we received a FREE Burger of choice for my birthday week!
- Call and ask them if they have any coupons out anywhere (many stores/restaurants will spill the beans to you ;))
- Stack your coupons with your discounted gift cards!
4. Be creative when ordering!
- Ditch the appetizer (don’t forget they have bottomless fries!) and the drinks (have a cheap or FREE drink at home!). Of course, if you have coupons for FREE drinks….drink up!
- Skip the kids menu!
- Split regular size meals among your kids! We have four of those blessings, so we order their $5 cheeseburger twice to split amongst the four of them! Red Robin has no problem splitting burgers in separate baskets and loading each of them with refillable fries! This cost us $10 and the kids get more food, vs. $4.49 for each kids meal!
- Ask if there are specials or unadvertised deals and pay attention to the table fliers for special offers!
By following these steps – we can all six have a nice dinner for around $20 (before tipping on non-discounted price)!! Yay! Red Robin is a place where you can leave completely stuffed due to those yummy bottomless steak fries and special fry sauce 😉
