We have started something in our family that has been a very easy way for us to help some that are in need. We have started carrying food in our minivan (like granola bars, fruits, breads, etc.) that we have taken from home that we may not need or that we have gotten really cheap. Why are we keeping it in our minivan?
Well, as we have all seen and noticed, there are people on the streets begging for help. Many are looking for food. Often times, we would see them as we were on our way into the grocery store, and then get them something, to find them gone by the time we came out. Last time that this happened, ThriftyAl requested that we gather things to keep with us to hand them immediately. Also, many are men, and so have prepacked bags of men’s clothing and shoes that you are no longer in need of might be a way to help as well.
Just a thought and an idea for you to easily help others – especially during the cold months!

Two years ago I stayed with my brother’s family up near Seattle, and one bitter cold day a woman was standing at a corner. I had an apple left from my lunch so I gave it to her, and it got me to thinking that I should do something like that. But I didn’t stay in that part of the country for long, and we just don’t have folks standing on the streets much where I live now, so nothing came of my thoughts. I am so glad to read that someone else had the same idea and is showing compassion to the homeless people out there!
