Kiplinger put out a 2013 list of the best cities for Cheapskates. We were actually pleasantly surprised that we happen to live in a mecca of cheapskates! In fact, we actually live about 15 minutes from TWO cities on the top 10 list….. one is 15 minutes to the south and the other is 15 minutes to the north!

Now, while being a cheapskate could be something to strive towards, there are a few things that are not so great about being a cheapskate. We would prefer to call ourselves “thrifty” instead of “cheapskates” as cheapskates have a bad reputation – even often earning the name “cheat-skates” while trying to save a buck at any cost.
Here’s our top 10 reasons why you shouldn’t be a cheapskate:
10. If you are losing your mind trying to be one
9. If you are losing your patience
8. Tempted to cheat the system while justifying it
7. Hoarding
6. Being very prideful of your cheapskateness that you look down on others who aren’t doing things the way you would
5. Sacrificing health of yourself and your family
4. When you sacrifice valuable time with your family or kids
3. When being a cheapskate is more important than relationships
2. When you have issues of giving to others
1. When you chat someone’s tip – you should never discount service to save a buck
Finally we also wanted to encourage you to not be a cheapskate when it comes to giving God what is His – at least 10% tithe and 3% for charity within the church too. Don’t forget that all that you have been given is from Him who has ordained and created all things. Don’t be a cheapskate with God!

i hate to tell you but i live in raleigh, it is not cheap! i used to live in n. va and it was much less expensive to live there, the only thing more $$$ was the initial cost of your home. food, clothes, shopping, gas, etc was much more expensive in raleigh. now w/ the new tax laws, it will be even more if you are in a middle to lower income family..you will now pay taxes on over 130 services-eg, attys, warrenties, nail and hair salons, ac/heating checkups, car check ups, etc.
….sales tax is almost 3% more in raleigh than in n va., you pay personal property tax every yr on your cars, boats, etc, dont pay that in n va. nc is one of the highest taxed states…gas tax is very high. cant wait to get out of this state…
