We love Turmeric! We have mentioned it many times and in fact you have seen that many of our recipes have a very “yellow” tint or color as I have mentioned that I try to sneak it into everything!
Over the past several years, I have read article after article about the benefits of Turmeric. For the past few years, we have incorporated it into our diet as much as possible. It is a really easy item to sneak into nearly everything. The taste is not super strong in recipes and so my family really only notices it by the bright yellow color!
Here’s those 10 health benefits:
- Fights Cancer
- Improves Digestion
- Detoxes Liver
- Reduces Cholesterol
- Helps Prevent Alzheimer’s
- Helps Heal Wounds and Injuries
- Relieves Arthritis
- Helps Control Diabetes
- Boosts Immune System
- Helps Maintain Ideal Weight
No matter what type of recipe or even pre-packed foods, you can add this in soups, casseroles, stir-fry’s, one dish meals, sprinkled on veggies, used as part of seasoning for proteins, etc.
One of my most favorite snacks in the whole world is air popped organic popcorn with a bit of melted butter or coconut oil and then sprinkled with REAL salt, cayenne pepper and turmeric. This is a SUPER healthy, satisfying snack and we have figured that the cost with all of the organic ingredients still ends up being dramatically cheaper than microwave popcorn any day! Other than your initial investment in a $20 air popper HERE, the rest of the cost is menial.
Here’s a graph showing the benefits of Turmeric and some quick ways to use it:
Then a few months ago, Alex and I also started to take them as supplements to make sure we were getting enough and to get all of the benefits and so glad that we are. We love to make our lives easier and receive whole food benefits and so this was the ticket!
Here’s how we buy Organic Turmeric in bulk for cooking as well as the “pill” forms!
First, you can buy individual bottles in any store that are the 1 oz. size for around $4 a bottle. We started with this, but then we went through it so fast that I wanted to find a better source! I did! We found a 1-lb organic bag from Vitacost for a super price! We bought this and just keep refilling our Turmeric bottle and have saved so much money!
You can also find a SUPER deal on the capsule form from Vitacost, so you can combine the two forms and get it all for $20!
I have mentioned Vitacost a few times, including most recently for the 7 Best Essential Oils for cleaning. We’ve also mentioned that Vitacost is one of our go-to grocery stores. It is like an online Whole Foods/Trader Joe’s, but with Amazon’s prices. What we recommend is to make sure to spend at least $30 the first time you shop as your first shopping experience, you can use this link HERE and get $10 off $30 or more on your first purchase! So shop around and even consider getting the 7 Best Essential Oils for cleaning shown HERE.
NEW Customers (first time customers to Vitacost) automatically get a $10 off coupon code HERE with registration.

Now I can’t say whether or not it will cure or be the replacement to anything you are currently doing and I would not recommend using this as an alternative form to cure the above 10 things, but we both really do believe that your diet and foods really do play a huge role in your overall health! Turmeric was an easy, delicious, thrifty way for us to get a little better nutrition from many foods we eat and any subsequent health benefits!

Wow- that sounds amazing Felicia! We haven’t tried making a tea or drink out of it and so that is something new we should add to our list and give it a whirl! Thanks for the information!

I have powdered turmeric from the grocery spice aisle. How much to take daily? 1/2 teaspoon, 3/4 or full teaspoon.
