This is absolutely adorable…don’t you think?!? I love finding new and creative ways to make a Christmas Tree and this is no exception to the Christmas Tree creative ideas – plus add extra levels of adorable and you have a real tree winner (even if your tree is fake. :))
If you watched our live video on Facebook about our Christmas traditions, we talked about how we put up two trees – I know, some call it overkill, but the reason why is that we have our family memories tree (shown in the video), but I get to put up a tree in my livingroom that is all mine (or mine and my girls’) for us to put our creative juices to work.
So when we saw this idea, we had to post it for you because you might be one of those looking for creative tree ideas too. This tree was created by Heather, a crafty and creative mom of 2 boys living in Ohio. She shared this project with us, and the secrets to how she makes it look like both a tree and, well, an adorable snowman! The tools are affordable to re-create. She bought the supplies at Hobby Lobby and if they are not on sale (which this time if year, all Christmas is 40-50% off all of the time) you can use the 40% off coupon on one item from the Hobby Lobby app.
Here’s the supplies and tools you need for the Snowman Tree:
- Charger plate from Dollar Tree
- Metal bucket
- Black spray paint (or black chalk paint)
- Gorilla glue
- Scissors, knife and pliers (to create a hat)
- Soft Snow craft stuffing
- Old pair of boots
- Black buttons
- Orange felt (for the nose)
- 2 extra tree branches (with pine needles or without – your choice)
How to make an ADORABLE Snowman Tree:
- You need to start by making the hat. This is made with the charger plate and the bucket. First, you need to cut the center of the plate out. You can do this with the scissors, knife and pliers to cut it out!
- Second, spray paint them charger plate and bucket black (or with black chalk paint if you want to write messages on the hat like Merry Christmas or 22 days until Christmas). You can also decorate the hat with regular white paint too if you use regular black spray paint.
- To piece the hat together, you will simply attach the bucket upside down to the charger plate with the Gorilla Glue. This hat will now rest nicely on the top of the tree and be quite stable.
- Spray paint the old boots black as well. Once dry, place at the bottom of the tree.
- For the actual snowman, the best way to give a snowman effect is by using this Soft Snow material found at craft stores (sometimes called snow blankets, etc.) Here’s an example:
- Wrap the tree in three sections, leaving portions of the tree exposed (and perfect for more decor).
- Finish the tree by using actual black buttons, and glue them onto the snow with the gorilla glue. And create a nose by wrapping a sheet of orange felt into a cone (securing with glue) and sticking it into the face of the snowman. And stick your branches right above the second loop of snow into the sides like arms – whether branches with pine needles or branches.
If you make a similar version, or your own creative tree, we’d love to see it! Send us pictures!
Great job Heather – thank you for sharing!

I need to pack and move, but as a senior, I have so many craft supplies, I was wondering if community or senior clubs would take some? Some senior homes might also? mary

I would like to have a similar wall done. Is it real stone, or a plastic product? It has a nice touch. More cosy like. mary

That sounds great! My husband and I are planning to make a Christmas tree together. He enjoys DIY projects, and he learned this from his job at the top polished concrete company https://polishedconcrete1.com , the company that like provide concrete polishing and stuff like that. It should be a fun and enjoyable activity for us.
