Parenting is the toughest journey and far more difficult
than anything else we have posted here, but it’s also the most rewarding.
We really wanted to share something that is in our hearts and our minds. You see us posting financial advice, money saving tips, recipes, DIY and all things frugal living. And then every once in a while, we post something regarding life in general. Today is one of those days.
You see, we have a passion for helping our readers learn to find new and creative ways to live intentionally – and part of living intentionally is dealing with the most important and precious aspect of our lives – our relationships within our family. You see us sharing this frugal life with you, but rarely do you get to see us living lives simply as parents – parents to our six, beautiful small children.
We are not parenting experts, which is why we don’t often blog about it. We make mistakes every.single.day. But it is a reminder of the grace that God has shed upon us and that He continues to shed upon us every.moment.of.every.single.day.
This is the glue that holds our family together – God’s grace and love. And if only we could spread and give even a minute bit of the grace that God gives us to our children.
The biggest passion of our lives is that of nurturing, teaching, training and loving our children. It’s the time of life we are in and it’s our biggest mission field at this time of our lives as well.
It’s also much more difficult than budgeting, menu-planning, organizing, DIYing, saving money, etc. Why? Because those parts of life are mechanical. They are so easy when compared to raising children.
Instead, we like to consider raising children as horticultural, meaning there isn’t a checklist solution like the other areas of life. You have to nurture, water, provide the right amount of sunlight, deter pests, protect from the elements, pull the weeds continuously and watch them grow slowly.
We’ve been trying since the birth of our first 11 years ago to follow this principle. Even with the horticultural analogy, it’s still not as easy as the act of gardening, but this perspective certainly provides insight and guards against “mechanical parenting.”
Well, recently, we stumbled across one of the BEST parenting articles that has just provided another level of understanding, clarity and encouragement when it comes to raising children.
We read this article on Your Child Is Your Neighbor from the Gospel Coalition. It was truly eye-opening, hugely encouraging and we are so grateful for the reminder of this perspective that we wanted to share it with you in hopes that it would be an encouragement for you.
May you go in grace and peace as we lead and guide your children each and every day.
Also, a couple of years ago, we shared this article on 3 Great Parenting Tips To Better Your Relationship with your Child.
We hope you don’t mind us taking a little bunny trail to share a little about the thing that is most important to us behind the scenes in our lives – our relationship with our Savior and how that affects our relationships with our children.
And if you want to follow our personal, day-to-day lives even more, we recommend following us on Instagram for the best inside look. 🙂
God Bless – Alex and Cassie (a.k.a. forgiven parents)
