Have you seen or heard of these Sharpie Mugs (or plates/bowls) that are floating all around the internet?
Well, they are very popular because it is a fun, easy, affordable, personal way to make a gift for someone! These would be especially cute for Mother’s/Father’s Day.
Basically, you just take a plain mug, plate or bowl and write your designs on it with your Sharpie. Then you bake it at 350 degrees for 30 minutes to set it.
Well, here’s the caveat…. the BEST thing to do is to use Sharpie Paint Markers. This will help your project to actually be more permanent.
As we shared earlier this week, permanent markers aren’t always permanent as you can find ways to wash them off things (see our “How To Remove Permanent Marker From Most Anything” chart HERE). And this is the case even for baked on regular sharpies.
Stephanie shared this idea with us and she first tried the popular way of using a regular Sharpie, but with the first hand washing experience, it started to wash away the design.
So she researched and tried the REAL way to do it and found that really permanent solution!
Now unlike regular Sharpies that you can remove from most surfaces with the right tools, the paint ones will be more permanent – so be careful 🙂
Here’s an idea of the costs associated with this project:
- You can buy mugs/bowls/plates for cheap at Walmart or the Dollar Store and even local thrift stores = $1
- The Sharpie Paint Markers are $3.47 at Hobby Lobby each- but you can use the 40% off coupon and they will last for several projects.
So for a couple of bucks, you can have a very nice personalized gift for someone special!
How to Make It the RIGHT way:
This design was inspiration for her and her BFF that live in different states! There are so many things you can do, but that was a super cute concept too!
