What We Want To Encourage You To Do THIS on This Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day 2015 – but why should we be happy?  Today is a day of remembrance and memorial of those you have served in our Armed Forces and those that have died while serving in our Armed Forces for our freedom.

Does that make us happy? It should. We should feel blessed, privileged and happy knowing that there are brave men and women who have sacrificed so much, and in many cases, sacrificed all to give us our freedoms that we enjoy today.  Without them, we would live in fear.  Without them, we would forget the blessings that come from living in this country.

But we often forget about each of them. We often remember that we get a day off, a day to catch-up, a day to play, a day to rest, a day of grabbing those sales, a day to BBQ, a day to spend with family and friends and a day of fun.

Well, we want to encourage you to remember and celebrate the freedoms we have because of our Armed Forces, because of those sacrifices, because of those that work hard, face fears, and sacrifice time with their families and friends.

Teach these things to your children too. Let them not forget what this day is about and make it a day to find those teachable moments. My parents raised me to thank and appreciate our men and women in uniform where ever we ran into them out in public, no matter what day of the year. My parents always stopped them and said a simple “thank you.”  Even better, ask them where they served and sincerely listen to them in their answer.  May we do the same and teach our children the same.

Finally, to those of you that serve in the Armed Forces and those that are married to, have a parent, child or friend in the Armed Forces, thank you for your sacrifices and your dedication to our country and for our freedoms. Our family loves and appreciates you and all that you do and have done for our country. We know that it is a tough job and many sacrifices on many levels are made.

You are the heart of our country and the true heroes.

So from our family to yours…

Thank you so much!!

And to the rest of us, may this Memorial Day weekend have a more somber and grateful tone to it as we go throughout our day.

I appreciate your sentiments and totally agree with honoring on a daily basis those serving and those who gave their all for our nation. Just as a matter of history Memorial Day (Decoration Day) began as a way to honor those who lost their lives during the Civil War. As I understand it, it continues to be a day to honor the fallen. Veteran’s Day is the special day set aside to honor those still living who serve or have served in our military. But, for sure we need to be grateful daily for all the military, living and deceased!
