We have seen this idea floating around all over the web and so we decided to tell you about it and try it ourselves this year. Whether you already save a bunch or don’t save anything, everyone can do this easy and fun savings plan and then have an extra $1,378 in your savings by this time next year!
It’s a very simple concept!
Basically, you save $1 for each week of the year that it is.
Week #1 – Save $1
Week #2 – Save $2
Week #3 – Save $3
and so on……. by the end of the year and all 52 weeks, you will have accumulated $1,378 towards whatever additional savings goal you have. We would recommend trying to find ways to include this as an addition to your current savings plans and goals. How awesome would it be to save up this extra amount! Imagine what could you do with it?!?
UPDATE: See the follow-up post HERE on 7 Modifications to make this plan work for every budget!
Use the ideas on our site to find this extra amount in your budget. Perhaps buy one less thing at the grocery store for the first several weeks (since the amount is quite low!) and as the year goes on, find additional ways to find the extra money in your budget or from an extra sm. job per week from our “Over 100 Ways and Counting To Make Extra Income” list of ideas HERE. You can also take concepts that we share in our 2×2 plan and just add an extra 2.1% or so to make up the savings difference 🙂
We already have a savings plan in place, but we are also going to do this and we will be using the money for an extra vacation for our family! We will look forward to enjoying this extra treat in 2015 after we have saved an additional $1,378!
What would you do with the money?
What do you think of this idea? Will you join us in 2014 to save an extra $1,378?
As we mentioned, we have seen this idea in many places, but we created a download for you to use to check off each week and see your accumulating amount each week! It’s quite a motivating way to save!

Thanks – Cool idea. I’m going to try it!
Totally doing this. Just started today but am playing catch up to be current in 2014. 🙂
I’m going to try it as well and like Jen, play catch up first 🙂 Thank for this!
I am doing this..but reversing it and starting at week 52 because I am using a savings account so I don’t spend it. Starting with the largest amount will give me a little interest!
I like this idea you have- the way they have it you would have to be able to save over 200 in December…. not an easy thing to do for some. your idea takes the momentum of trying something new and pupts the hardest part at the front when you have the energy to do it!
Thanks, I’m going to do this!!
Am seriously going to try this. Just have tomake sure it is is an account that I can’t readily access.
$26.50/week for 52 weeks would give the same result.
