Recipe type: Dessert
Ingredients
36 OREO Cookies crushed - do reserve the 2 "cookie" parts (so 2 tops and 2 bottoms) to crush and top the truffles with
1 pkg. (8 oz.) Cream Cheese, softened
16 oz. of semi-sweet melting chocolate. You can use chips, almond bark or other melting chocolate. White chocolate is awesome too and makes them more OREO like!
Instructions
Crush the cookies in a food processor (don't forget to reserve some crumbs of the cookie part and set aside)
Then mix cream cheese and with cookie crumbs until blended.
Form into into 48 (1-inch) balls just with your clean hands
Melt your chocolate. You can either melt over medium heat on the stove-top with a double broiler (my preferred method) or you can microwave for 30 second - 1 minute intervals, stirring in between, until melted. *As a side note, I like to add a bit of cooking wax to the melted chocolate and let this melt as well - it makes the finish on the truffles shiny!
Then dip in melted chocolate
Place on waxed paper-covered rimmed baking sheet. Sprinkle with reserved cookie crumbs.
Then refrigerate for at least 1-hour or until ready to serve!
Notes
Here's some fun variations and ideas. I used white chocolate drizzle on top, but the I think I will do the cookie crumbs on top next time like they do on the Kraft site. I also love the idea of dipping in white chocolate with the chocolate OREO crumbs on top! It will look more like an over-grown, exploding OREO! Also, you can dye to white chocolate pink or red for Valentine's Day or Christmas. When I serve them, I will put them in the mini muffin tins with the holiday or party theme we are celebrating!
