As we continue to talk about how to be prepared for disasters and emergencies on a budget, we are still talking about water options.

We first mentioned the WaterBOB to easily and cheaply store 100 gallons of water with hardly any storage space needed (until the emergency).  Well, next we want to talk about one of the smartest, easiest, affordable ways to filter a lot of water that comes from anywhere and also considering the storage space needed!

Well, it is a newish product that we learned about a few months ago called LifeStraw!

This thing is AMAZING!!

We’ve been researching and storing many water options since we started our own personal be prepared journey a while back (and options that we will continue to talk about as we suggest having multiple ways to get clean drinking water!) but this one is one of our favorites as it is so brilliant, so versatile, so practical, and filters 1,000 liters of water!!

Remember that we mentioned that you need to have 1 gallon of water per person per day and we recommend a minimum of 90 days of water. For our family of 7, this is 630 gallons of water.  2 -3 straws would filter the water we need for our family for those 90 days for drinking purposes.

Here’s what this handy dandy straw does:

  • Removes a minimum of 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria per manufacturer.(>LOG 6 reduction)
  • LifeStraw® offers easy access to clean and safe drinking water away from home!
  • Filters up to 1000L of contaminated water per the manufacturer.
  • Removes a minimum of 99.9% of waterborne protozoan parasites per manufacturer.
  • Reduces water turbidity by filtering particles of approximately 0.2 microns.

The best part of this option, you can get water from anything anywhere and have clean drinking water! Think stream, creek, even the toilet…. I know – it sounds disgusting, but when you need water, you would do anything!

So here’s the better news – these things are cheap, effective, portable, convenient and take up very little storage space and just very, very smart!  Our toddlers could pack these around if we needed them too! It is also something you can use now for camping, hiking, outings, etc.!

They have also won numerous awards and accolades because of how incredible and inventive this product is.

So the price tag is only around $20 each LifeStraw shipped free with Amazon Prime or a $25 or more order.

Grab as many as you think you would need for an emergency, but at least 1 per household.

The investment is very affordable, and could save your life or the life of a family member in desperate times!

Head to Amazon HERE to read the fantastic reviews and to get your LifeStraw for around $20 shipped!

Share your ideas too!! How are you storing water or what ideas have you seen?

Between the WaterBob and Lifestraw – you could have 100+ gallons of emergency water storage and filter those 100 gallons and a lot more from outside sources all for around $45-$50! That is a VERY smart move!
