It is day #5 for our Be Intentional Challenges!

We hope that these have been a blessing and a help so far as you embark on a fantastic 2013!

As a reminder, the 30 challenges this month are designed to get you on the right foot, the right track and give you energy, efficiency and organization which will propel you into a life that is able to develop an overall financially smart, happy and frugal home.  We are going to have different themes each month this year (and we have very exciting stuff planned) and this month is your foundation!

We encourage couples and families to do these challenges together so the whole house can function well!

As the 30 days go along, we will be focusing on 5 areas for the Be Intentional Month:

  • Self
  • Home
  • Budget
  • Schedule
  • Frugality

The first four days of challenges had to do with Set and Be Strict About Bedtime and Work Towards Waking Up At The Same Time Everyday and Making Your Bed Everyday and Get Dressed To Shoes Everyday.

Well, you may notice that the first of these have had a lot to do with yourself.  We are starting with the things that take care of yourself first and towards the top of this month’s challenges as it is important to take care of yourself, especially since we are doing the challenges this month for you to be at the top of your game.  We encourage you to read the introduction to this month’s challenges to understand what we are doing this month.

With that, it is time to implement Be Intentional Challenge #5 –

Drink the Daily Recommendation of Water

First, we have to be honest and say….we really, really stink at this one and so it is going to be a challenge for us! The days that we make it happen, we do feel so much better as a fully hydrated body is full of energy and efficiency! But it is hard!! 🙂

Even the MayoClinic (along with thousands of others) talks about the importance of water:

Water is your body’s principal chemical component and makes up about 60 percent of your body weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don’t have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired.

So how much water should you drink?  Well, it is going to be different for each of us, but there is a Hydration Calculator on About.com:

So… after figuring out how much water you need, then you are either thinking…

  • “I can do this easy!”
OR
  • “This is definitely going to be a challenge!” (This would be us!!)

Here’s some things that we have found help us:

  • Invest in a bottle that you actually enjoy drinking out of.  We have bough cheap ones with deals and they end up collecting dust! We finally just decided to get the ones that we are really going to drink from even if they cost us a little more.
  • Add lemon, cucumber or other natural flavors to enhance the taste to help.
  • Have good tasting water.  Invest in a Brita or other filter system so that you can get good tasting and healthy water.
What tips do you have for everyone to get their daily water intake?
And…will this challenge be easy for you or a challenge? Leave us a comment to let us know!

Finally, one fun and new thing we will be doing this year is having Facebook groups for each month’s challenges.  This first month we have our Be Intentional with The Thrifty Couple Facebook Group HERE. We highly encourage you to ask to join so that we can communicate and encourage everyone.  It is intended to be a small and intimate group as we develop relationships with our readers, talk back and forth and ask questions! We are excited about this new avenue and hope you will find it encouraging too!

Head to the Be Intentional with The Thrifty Couple Facebook Page HERE and ask to join us there! You can also invite friends and spouses too!
