We are at day #28 and the last day in the master bedroom! The final two days are hitting two important areas  – but before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s get today’s task done!

Day #28 Challenge – Organize Master Bedroom Closet

My master closet is embarrassing.  We don’t have a dresser, we just have a closet with shelves (and hanging space of course) along with shoe bins, etc. As mentioned in one the tasks a while back, our master bedroom furniture and re-do were a treat to ourselves after becoming debt-free! This was our first “pay cash” savings goal – so the space in our room is actually taken up by book cases, a reading corner with nice, comfy chairs, 8 foot high book cases and a poster bed! We bought pretty much all of it from IKEA and it is a nice little retreat and reading room.

But I certainly gave up storage space for clothing and classic bedroom furniture.  However, the nice big shelves in our closet are typically more than enough.  We just let it pile up!

So I reorganized this again, with a primary goal of making a season change and getting rid of a lot of clothes.  Between the kids’ clothing organization and our’s after today, we have two large garbage bags of clothing to donate.

Well, the shelves were cleared, some clothes donated, some put away for the new season and back in order.  I try to keep the order this way – very top shelf = Alex’s workout clothes, second shelf = Alex’s pants, third shelf = Alex’s t-shirts, fourth shelf = my everyday clothes, fifth shelf = my workout and “be comfy around the house” clothes. Also, I try to leave a space in the middle on each shelf in for the second day old clothing, meaning clothes that are not freshly clean, but not dirty.

I also cleaned out the shoe bins.  It’s crazy now as my 10-year old daughter now shares a shoe size with me! I can’t believe that! So I passed on a few fun and fancy ones to her that were me in my early twenties a handful of years ago.  She will probably outgrow them by next year, and then I can get rid of them. But at least she can enjoy them more when they really aren’t me anymore. I have a hard time letting go of shoes – it’s my weakness. 🙂

Also, I reduced and shrunk down our clothes that are hanging.

Now it is your turn to reorganize your master bedroom closet space!

How is your challenge going?  What did you do to solve an organization issue?
