DIY Patriotic Red, White and Blue Cake (How To Tie-Dye A Cake!)

Ingredients
  • ½ C unsalted butter, room temp
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 C flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ baking soda
  • ¾ C buttermilk
  • 1½ C sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Red and Blue gel food coloring
Ingredients for Homemade Icing:
  • -2 egg whites
  • -1 C powder sugar
  • -1/2 tsp cream of tarter
  • -Add ¼ C powder sugar until stiff peak form
  • -Red & Blue gel food coloring
Instructions
  1. -Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. -Spray the bundt cake pan with Pam spray.
  3. -Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda together in a bowl.
  4. -Beat butter on high for 30 seconds.
  5. -Add sugar and vanilla extract to the butter until well combined.
  6. -Add egg whites, one at a time, mixing after each.
  7. -Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each.
  8. -Add ⅓ C flour mixture to the wet mixture followed by adding ⅓ C of the buttermilk; add ⅓ C flour mixture again then add ⅓ C buttermilk mix on low speed, add ⅓ C of flour and add the rest of ⅓ C of buttermilk mix in low speed until thoroughly blended.
  9. -Divide the batter into three bowls.... add red gel food coloring to one.... add blue gel food coloring to the second and the third remains white. Stir well.
  10. -Begin by spooning in some of the red batter then the blue... then white in the pan. Spoon in no particular order. Just alternate the different colored batter until all of the batter has been spooned into the cake pan.
  11. -With all of the batter in the pan.... just shake the cake pan with the batter.
  12. -Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
  13. -Leave the cake in the pan until cooled then transfer to a wire rack.
  14. -Leave on the wire rack until fully cooled.
Directions for Homemade Icing and Icing Tie-Dyed Cake:
  1. -Mix eggs, cream of tartar, almond extract, and powder sugar on medium speed for 4 minutes.
  2. -Divide into three bowls.
  3. -Add red gel food coloring to bowl #1... stir to blend well.
  4. -Add blue gel food coloring to bowl #2...stir to blend well.
  5. -Bowl #3 remains white.
  6. -Fill in a small pastry bag with a small frosting tip with the red food coloring.
  7. -Squeeze the pastry bag to push the red icing to the tip and cris/ cross on the top of the bundt cake down to the sides.
  8. -Wash the pastry bag and refill with the white icing....repeat the above instructions.
  9. -Wash the pastry bag and refill with the blue icing... Squeeze the pastry bag to push the blue icing to the tip and cris/cross on the top of the bundt cake down to the sides.
  10. -Place on a serving platter.
