Vocal Point is offering two great FREEBIES right now! A FREE Sample of Kashi Go Lean and a FREE sample of Downy Fabric Softener! You must be a member to request yours, so if you are a member, just log-in. If you are not a member I would apply to become one to not miss out on these FREEBIES in the future.
When we have requested from Vocal Point before, many times when we receive them, they are full size FREEBIES! Also, it looks like these samples may only be available in certain zip codes. When I tried to request our samples, it said that the offer was not available in my area.
Let us know if your area qualifies and if you were able to request!
Here is today’s Daily Dose of Thrify – The Ever Growing Green Onion!
What is it?!?! Well, it is an Ever Growing Green Onion! Here is a way to save some money in the kitchen by reusing your green onions over and over again.
A Green Onion is quite a cool little veggie as it will regrow itself over and over again. It is simple set up to get this little Green Onion to save you money! I saw this tip on the Food Network a few years ago and we repeatedly do this in our own kitchen – it works very well.
When you go to use your green onion, just cut it down to where there are a couple of inches left and just barely into the white part of the green onion stem. Leave the roots alone! You do not want to cut your roots off the onion.
Use the parts of the green onion in your dish or recipe and place the remaining couple of inches in a cup with just a bit of water to where the roots and base are immersed.
Place the green onion in cup in a window and watch as your green onion regrows and new greens appear in just a matter of a few days.
Just keep cutting down the greens to use in your dishes and recipes over and over again.
We have kept green onions for quite a few weeks this way and they seem to regrow continuously by doing this.
A Few Extra Tips:
We usually keep 2-5 stems in a cup and will stagger/rotate our usage so that we always have a long stem with lots of green to cut off.
We also keep the stems in one of those “free” cups from restaurant kids meals or a plastic disposable Solo cup. If it gets really gunky or has a strong onion smell, then I do not feel bad throwing it out!
Rinse the stems and roots under running water to clean them before immersing the first time. I also do this each time I use one to rinse off any residue to keep the water as clean as possible. I also change the water every few days as well.
You can actually cut it down to any point. You do not need to cut off all of the greens each time in order for it to regrow. So if you literally needed just a few diced green onions, it is okay to just take a couple of snips and leave the rest to keep growing.
So now you can have an “Ever Growing Green Onion” in your kitchen too and save a bit of money while having green onions on hand continuously!
