Have you noticed this time of year just gets stressful?  There’s so many activities and events while you’re preparing for the summer and just trying to catch your breath.  With that we thought it would be fun to cook you dinner.  But since we’re here and you’re there we thought it might be a bit hard to come into your kitchen.  So instead we’re going to “cook” for you like many husbands (yep, this is Alex writing this) like to cook for their families – order out for pizza!

The last two weeks have been crazy over here with The Thrifty Couple. We’ve attended a wedding of a dear friend and traveled this past weekend to speak at a conference. There’s been a BIG change on our site! Check out our new homepage! Whoa right? What happened? Well, we first started our site to provide the tips, resources and tools we used to help us get out of our $100K consumer debt and these are things we still use today to help us get to our next financial goal.

We are passionate about sharing these resources and the articles with you. We are passionate about sharing how we live our lives everyday as The Thrifty Couple! We love it!

We also have heard from many of you that you have so much enjoyed and appreciated the articles, recipes, homemade products, kids resources and all of this timeless information that we have the privilege to share with you each day…. but they get buried so quickly by the awesome, amazing and wonderful deals, freebies and savings! And they really are awesome, there is just so much that mixing the timeless with the time-sensitive was proving hard to wade through for those of you looking for some of that specific timeless information!

So we have heard you loud and clear – we have separated the two to make this much easier for everyone! The homepage now houses all of the timeless articles, tips, resources and recipes and the blog now houses all of those 10-20 posts per day where you will still find all of the amazing freebies, deals and savings that day to utilize when you are in need of a deal!

Great news right? Well, we have a confession to make, we sorta-kinda got lost on our site too when we tried to find something as well! So we love this change

If you are a follower of our 10-20 posts per day that contain that day’s freebies, deals and savings – we suggest you bookmark the blog page HERE, click the new “Blog button” in the menu (see below),  or even click on the button found on the middle of the homepage to get there fast. It will look the same as it always has!

So you will still be getting it all! If you haven’t subscribed yet, we HIGHLY suggest doing so! We were enjoying dinner together as a family a couple of nights ago and Cassie started screaming.  I thought she was on The Price is Right and had just won the showcase – in fact, from her response, I thought she had won the double showcase!!  Just why was she screaming so excitedly?  I was wondering the same thing.   Then she started screaming, “Its been two years!”, and I knew exactly what she was referring to.  Yes, its been two years, actually on April 3, that we’ve been debt-free (at least outside of our mortgage).  In fact, we announced it just over two years ago on our site when we paid off that last card.  No second mortgages, no rolling the debt into another loan…just paying it off using the process that we’ve been announcing the last couple of weeks!

Its amazing and almost indescribable just how much weight was lifted off our shoulders that day.  We’ve been trying to describe just how much despair and anguish we lived through as we struggled day in and day out to work our way out of our debt.  And part of our goal is to let you know that we know the pain.  We know the hopelessness.  We know what its like to not see the light at the end of the tunnel.  But by the grace of God and working through seven years of learning how to get out of it, we made that announcement on April 3, 2010 that truly changed our lives.

So what are we going to do to celebrate?  We’re going to celebrate with a giveaway of course – and no, we didn’t go into debt to do it!   We know how must you loved our last $100 Sears giveaway.  The response was outstanding!  So we thought we would do it again.  Why not give you another opportunity to enter to win?!  We are excited because one of you that probably entered last time will win a $100 Sears gift card – we hope you love it!

Its a beautiful Friday here so we thought we would offer a quick giveaway – and as we haven’t offered an iTunes gift card for a while we thought it would be a fun prize to celebrate your weekend!  And remember, iTunes doesn’t just have music options for you (which they offer millions of songs), but you can use this gift card to purchase the next audio book for your trip (our family loves listening to books, lectures and sermons when we travel) or a few new applications for your iPad.  No matter what you are looking for, we hope you love this $15 iTunes gift card!

But we thought we would add another, optional giveaway.  A couple of weeks ago, on March 27th a premier event occurred that became all the buzz.  In fact, we know many of you were excited and stood in line for the sneak peek at the movie Monumental: In Search of America’s National Treasure.  We actually had sick kids so had to take two shifts.  I went to the early show and Cassie took our two eldest for the later show.  But what’s exciting is its opening this weekend in select theaters.  Have you seen it?  What do you think?

One of the highlights of the movie was the focus on the meaning behind the National Monument to the Forefathers -  a rare known monument that even many that know their history don’t know of its existence.  We thought a fun giveaway would be to also offer 10 FREE copies of the title track from the movie, Monumental by IV His Son – you might want to hear the sample of the song (plus, you can view the video here).  Its definitely not what you think.  You’ll note his chorus (is that what you call it in rap?) refers to the words engraved on the monument: Morality, Evangelist, Law, Justice, Mercy, Education, Wisdom, Peace, and Faith.  We hope you don’t think we’re off the deep end here, but we love it!  Plus a side note, we have been fans of the producers of this single, Crown Rights Media, before they produced this – beautifully done!
