Do you read magazines? Well, did you know that not all of the information that they come up with is not from the small list of editors and writers? In fact, many people are employed as contractors to write one certain article on one certain topic, or a more long term contract with much more writing involved. This is an excellent way to make money as a freelance writer. But that it not what we are going to talk about today (that is for another post another time).
What we want to talk about today is a way that ANYONE, not just freelance writers, can make a little money by helping add content to magazines!
Many, many magazines will pay you a flat fee, or reward you with a prize for submissions for their magazines. For example, The Family Handyman Magazine will pay you $100 for a tip if they decide to publish a tip you submit! That is not bad pay for something short and sweet to write up. We put up to $250 in the title as this was the highest pay we have seen for non-freelance writing, but you might find magazines that will pay you more!
Now we don’t think you can make a living off of doing something like this, but if you are striving for a financial goal whether you are using our 2% plan to reach that financial goal, or you are saving a certain dollar amount towards that next big vacation or whatever it is, this can contribute a little!
Here’s some examples that we have seen in four different magazines just in our home. I just took photos of these advertisements for contributors from these 4 magazines: Family Handyman, Woman’s World, Homeschool Enrichment and Taste of Home. There are hundreds of magazines that take submissions for pay or prizes! The photos were taken with my phone, so they aren’t great quality (sorry about that!)
These examples are for pay for an actual tip, photo or article submitted:
Here’s an example from Woman’s World where they will pay $250 for full-length stories and $25 for short stories and anecdotes.
And another example from Woman’s World where they will pay $50 – $100 for photos, jokes and funny personal stories.
And yet another example from Woman’s World where they will pay $100 for an inspirational story.
Here’s an example from Family Handy where they will pay $100 for tips and hints and DIY gone bad story.
Here’s an example from Taste of Home where they will pay $250 for pictures of your cook kitchen or kitchen remodel.
In addition to receive money from magazines for submissions and contributions, some topics and magazines reward with prizes for submissions.
Here’s an example from Taste of Home where they will reward you with an apron for submitting a food photo that gets featured.
Or even contests for submitting stories, tips or photos!
Here’s an example from Homeschool Enrichment where you enter a contest with your submission for submitting a testimony.
We even saw how they will reward charities of your choice with a cash prize for submitting stories, tips and photos! Here’s that example.
Here’s an example from Taste of Home where your favorite charity is rewarded by your submission!
We only cracked open 4 different magazines to see what they were offering. Now even though not all magazines pay anyone, many, many will! If you have something fun or have an expert tip, why not try and get paid for that idea and also say you were featured in a magazine too So just flip through magazines that you come across and see if they will reward you for your input!
We’ve been featured in the July 2012 All You magazine, and although this one didn’t come with a paycheck, it was really cool to see our picture and tips featured!
Have you ever tried this before and have you had success with it?
