Valentine’s Day is just a week away. Many of you may be scrambling to figure out how to make it a special and romantic day for your spouse without breaking the bank. We feel as if we have been experts on both how NOT to celebrate Valentine’s Day and HOW TO celebrate and not go in debt or outside of the budget to allow for a nice celebration.
First, we had written these previous articles that we suggest taking a few minutes to look over and read to help you get ides for each stage of your budget. We are then going to share some sites to help you get everything for 50% or less!
So with Valentine’s Day being right around the corner, we wanted to share some ideas we had for celebrating Valentine’s Day for different financial situations:
We ourselves have literally been in each of the above financial situations throughout our marriage when it comes to Valentine’s day! Currently, our budget allows for us to enjoy a night out for dinner and an activity plus a $20 allotment for gifts for each of us. We celebrate as a couple “out” before or after Valentine’s Day (read the articles to find out why
). We also have a family Valentine’s celebration, usually at home with pizza, homemade decorated cookies and games. The kids “love” Valentine’s day too as we encourage each of them to truly understand and teach a lesson on “loving your neighbor as yourself.” It sets a perfect stage for the family party!
This is the most we have had our budget for Valentine’s day since starting our out of debt journey. And although this will be the third Valentine’s Day being debt-free, we still want to keep things low and at a very reasonable rate as we try to be a wise steward about our finances and not even let the day of romance make a month (or more!) of financial hardship.
So now for the nitty gritty on gifts since we have set the stage for your celebration with one ideas from the three articles above and have told you a little about our own personal celebration!

My hubby and I LOVE Valentine’s Day. We don’t spend a lot of money, but always do something. Usually, I buy HIM flowers and he buys me chocolates and we share.
And instead of going out, he usually makes me a yummy dinner. One year, it was a heart shaped meatloaf. He is a sweetie-pie.
Wow – heart shaped meatloaf! That sounds really cool. How does he do that? A mold or by hand? Thanks for the ideas!
Another free Valentine’s gift idea is a copy of my novella Angels in Cowboy Boots. It will be free in Kindle format on Amazon during February 13th through the 15th. Happy reading!
I love the family Valentine celebration. I will be borrowing that idea for inspiration this year. The kids love any excuse for making cookies and having a game night
My friend received a Wooyah subpoena as an invite for a night out from her new boyfriend. It was pretty cute. Ahhh, to be young and newly in love…
