Thrifty Kids Thursday: Sidewalk Water Painting

sidwalk water paintingThrifty Kids Thursday is back! Today we are sharing a fun, super simple, thrifty and entertaining way for your kids to spend approximately 30 minutes in play – possibly enough time for you to get some tasks done.  It’s called Sidewalk Water Painting.

Sidewalk Water Painting is really easy to set-up fast! Just grab a cup of water and either a paintbrush or spongebrush and let their creative juices flow….literally! The last time Michael’s had their spongebrushes on sale for .10 each, we grabbed a couple of dollars worth hoping to use them on a long list of activities.  If you use the spongebrushes, they will probably need to be thrown out afterwards as they get tore up!

We got this idea as a favorite kids’ museum in our area sets up a station for kids to use paintbrushes with water to paint a rock/cement wall.  This is such a huge attraction for the kids and we thought “how easy this would be to incorporate at home”!  The best part is that there is NO clean-up as the water just evaporates! Simple set-up and simple clean-up = headache free mom/dad and lots of fun!

We have a Mendards (mid-west Home Depot type of store) that runs promos for many free items. Several times a year they have paint brushes (the type for painting walls, staining fences, etc) free after rebate. We stock up for this type of painting activity with our young daughter.

Thanks for the reminder! I used to do this with my Kindergarten class when it got hot outside during recess. Since there was no cleanup it made it super simple to setup! My kids would love this :)
