If you have been reading our blog the last few weeks, you will remember the joy we have expressed at the news of Cassie’s pregnancy with our fifth child. In addition, we had even started a weekly post on Wednesday evenings for thrifty ways to prepare for a brand new baby. We have no idea how to do this, but we needed to give you an update concerning my dear wife’s pregnancy. I know of no other way than to include the text of an email we just forwarded to our church family that has been praying for us the last few days.
We write with heavy hearts to let you know the results of our doctor appointment. On late Sunday evening, Cassie’s bleeding and cramping became very severe and we knew that she had miscarried our child. Our appointment confirmed that suspicion. We have grieved and will continue to do so, but are also thankful for our God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles (II Cor 1:3-4) who has also given us peace during this time.
We thank each of you for your prayers and words of encouragement during this time as well. We cannot express enough our gratitude we had in worship of our Most High God on Sunday morning as it lifted up our sorrowing hearts.
Although the days fashioned for our child were few in number, it has been difficult. Please know we appreciate each of you and cannot express the thankfulness we have for the prayers of the saints and love that we have received from you all.
Psalm 139:13-16
13 For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;[b]
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.
We share this with you because many of you have shared with us your love, encouraging words, and excitement over our pregnancy. We in turn wanted to share with you an update and share with you what is going on with us. Having now experienced this firsthand, we also want to express that our hearts go out to those of you that have experienced this before.
I didn’t finish the verse from II Cor 1:4 where it states that we receive comfort “so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God”. We are comforted that we may comfort others with our comfort. It is only by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ that we know this comfort who has loved us and became sin for us that we might know of the grace of God. We pray that you know of this comfort and share with you one of our favorite questions/answers regarding our faith.
Question: What is thy only comfort in life and death?
Answer: That I with body and soul, both in life and death, am not my own, but belong unto my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ; who, with his precious blood, has fully satisfied for all my sins, and delivered me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my heavenly Father, not a hair can fall from my head; yea, that all things must be subservient to my salvation, and therefore, by his Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me sincerely willing and ready, henceforth, to live unto him.
